Outdoor gardens at Park Chateau Estate & Gardens

18 of the Best Spring Wedding Venues in New Jersey

From spectacular gardens and flowering trees to lakeside patios, farm fields and waterfront ceremony spaces, these New Jersey wedding venues are especially beautiful in spring.

Thereโ€™s something about the first warm days of Spring that makes wedding season feel like itโ€™s officially back in New Jersey. Yes, Winter weddings are always an option, but once the trees start turning green, flowers begin to bloom and patios reopen, outdoor ceremonies and cocktail hours are back on the table.

And some New Jersey wedding venues are simply made for this time of year. Think manicured gardens, flowering trees, sprawling farm grounds, lakeside ceremony spaces, vineyards and waterfront views.

If youโ€™re considering a March, April, May or June wedding, these are some of our favorite Spring wedding venues in New Jerseyโ€”plus a few things you should know before choosing your date.

Spring Wedding Season in NJ Is Really Two Seasons

When it comes to weddings, Spring in New Jersey is really two different seasons.

March and at least part of April may still be considered off-season or shoulder season at some venues. Depending on your date and venue, that can mean lower pricing, reduced minimums or better availability than you’ll find later in the Spring.

By May and June, however, New Jersey wedding season is in full swing. Gardens are lush, trees have leafed out and the chances of comfortably holding your ceremony and cocktail hour outside are much better. The intense heat and humidity of summer typically haven’t arrived yet, making it an ideal time for an outdoor celebration. But those beautiful May and June Saturdays are also in high demand, and pricing and minimums may reflect that.

If saving money is a priority, itโ€™s worth asking venues specifically how their pricing changes between March, April, May and June. Moving your wedding just a few weeks earlier could make a difference. (And be sure to ask about Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, which can be significantly less than the always-popular Saturday night.)

Of course, there is a tradeoff. A late-March wedding may save you money, but don’t choose a venue solely for its gardens and assume they’ll be in full bloom. Spring weather in New Jersey can be unpredictable, so make sure you’re just as happy with your indoor ceremony and cocktail-hour options.

Check the Calendar Before Choosing Your Spring Wedding Date

Before falling in love with a Spring Saturday, check the calendar. Easter and Passover change dates every year and could affect guest availability, travel plans and, depending on your family and friends, whether some guests are able to attend at all.

And then thereโ€™s Motherโ€™s Day weekend. If flowers are important to you, we recommend thinking very carefully before choosing it. Motherโ€™s Day is one of the busiest floral holidays of the year. Wedding florists may have limited availability that weekend, and the huge demand for flowers can also affect whatโ€™s available and what youโ€™ll pay for it (prices could be double). If you have flexibility, avoiding Motherโ€™s Day weekend can save you the headache of searching for an experienced wedding florist who is both available and within your budget.

Memorial Day weekend deserves some thought, too. A three-day weekend can be wonderful for a wedding, particularly if you’re planning a destination-style celebration. But hotel rates, traffic and guest travel plans can all become factorsโ€”especially at the Jersey Shore.

Consider a Jersey Shore Wedding Before Summer Arrives

Love the idea of a Jersey Shore wedding but not necessarily the summer crowds? Spring may be the sweet spot.

An April or May wedding lets you take advantage of waterfront views, salty air and that unmistakable Shore atmosphere before the height of summer vacation season. You may also avoid some of the traffic, packed restaurants, higher hotel demand and competing vacation schedules that arrive once Summer gets underway.

Earlier Spring dates may also come with lower pricing or more flexible minimums at some Shore venues, so it’s worth asking.

And don’t overlook Cape May County venues for an early-Spring wedding. South Jersey’s milder coastal climate means the growing season generally gets underway earlier than it does farther north. Just remember that April along the water can still be chillyโ€”and Spring weather anywhere in New Jersey can change quickly. Choose a Shore venue with an indoor or covered ceremony option you genuinely love, rather than one you’ll consider a consolation prize if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

What to Look for in a Spring Wedding Venue

Spring weather in New Jersey can be unpredictable, so don’t fall in love with a venue’s gardens without considering what happens if you can’t use them. Ask exactly where your ceremony and cocktail hour will take place if it’s raining, windy or simply too cold to be outside. A beautiful indoor ceremony space, covered terrace, conservatory or onsite chapel can make Plan B feel every bit as special as Plan A.

If you’re touring during a different season, ask to see photos of the property from the month you’re considering. A garden that looks spectacular in late May may look very different in late March or early April, and bloom times can vary from year to year.

Finally, ask when outdoor spaces actually open for the season. Don’t assume that an April wedding automatically means the patio, outdoor bar or garden ceremony area will be available. If spending time outside is important to you, make sure you know exactly which spaces you’ll be able to use.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spring Weddings in New Jersey

What are the best months for a Spring wedding in New Jersey?

April, May and June are all beautiful months for a New Jersey wedding, but they can offer very different experiences. March and early April can still feel chilly and may fall into off-season or shoulder-season pricing at some venues. By May and June, gardens are lush, trees are green and outdoor ceremonies and cocktail hours are much more reliableโ€”but you’re also firmly into prime wedding season.

Are Spring weddings less expensive in New Jersey?

They can be. March and some April dates may come with lower pricing or minimums at certain New Jersey wedding venues. By May and June, however, demand increases considerably, particularly for Saturday weddings. Ask each venue how its pricing changes throughout the Springโ€”you may find that moving your wedding just a few weeks earlier makes a difference.

Is April too cold for an outdoor wedding in New Jersey?

Not necessarily, but don’t count on being outside. An April day in New Jersey can be warm and sunnyโ€”or cold, rainy and windy. If you’re planning an April wedding, choose a venue with an indoor or covered ceremony space you love just as much as the outdoor one.

When do gardens start blooming in New Jersey?

It depends on where you are in the state, the plants and that year’s weather. Early bulbs and flowering trees can begin appearing in March and April, while gardens generally become fuller and greener as you move into late April and May. Spring may also arrive somewhat earlier in South Jersey than in the northern part of the state.

If the gardens are one of the main reasons you’re choosing a venue, ask to see photos taken during the same month as your wedding rather than relying on photos taken later in the season.

Should you avoid Mother’s Day weekend for a wedding?

If flowers are important to you and your date is flexible, we’d strongly consider avoiding Mother’s Day weekend. It’s one of the busiest floral holidays of the year, which can make experienced wedding florists harder to book and may affect both flower availability and pricing. If you love a Mother’s Day weekend date, talk to florists before you sign your venue contract.

Should we consider Easter and Passover when choosing a Spring wedding date?

Yes. Easter and Passover change dates every year, so check the calendar before booking. Depending on your families and guest list, either holiday could affect attendance, travel plans and religious observances. Passover may also involve dietary considerations for some Jewish guests.

Is Spring a good time for a Jersey Shore wedding?

Absolutely. April and May can be a sweet spot for couples who want a Jersey Shore wedding without peak Summer crowds, traffic and competing vacation schedules. Earlier dates may also offer better availability or pricing at some venues and hotels.

Keep in mind that it can feel considerably cooler along the water, particularly in April. A beautiful indoor or covered backup ceremony space is essential.

What should we look for in a Spring wedding venue?

A great rain plan should be near the top of the list. Find out exactly where your ceremony and cocktail hour will move if it’s raining, windy or cold. Covered patios, conservatories, greenhouses and onsite chapels can be particularly valuable for Spring weddings.

Also ask when patios, outdoor bars and ceremony spaces officially open for the season, and request photos of the property from the month you’re considering. A venue’s gardens can look very different in early April than they do at the end of May.

What flowers are in season for a Spring wedding in New Jersey?

Spring offers some of the most beautiful wedding flowers of the year. Depending on the month and availability, choices can include tulips, daffodils, ranunculus, peonies, lilacs and flowering branches. Your florist can tell you what’s likely to be locally or seasonally available around your specific wedding date.

What happens if it rains on our Spring wedding day?

If you’ve chosen the right venue, rain shouldn’t mean settling for a disappointing Plan B. Before booking, ask to see the actual spaces that will be used for your ceremony, cocktail hour and photos in bad weather. Ideally, those backup spaces should feel like part of the venue’s appealโ€”not simply somewhere guests can be moved if it rains.
