At that time, Genna and Steven went on a few dates and didn’t expect much since Genna was leaving again. Lo and behold, Steven ended up spontaneously booking a last-minute flight to Denver after Genna was there for a few weeks, and that’s when their relationship really started to bloom. “It felt like we had known each other our whole lives,” Genna says. “Even now we complete each other’s sentences or blurt the same thoughts at the same time, it’s truly crazy to us!”Will You Marry Me?The couple got engaged on October 14, 2021. Steven took Genna to the Hoboken restaurant where they went on their “last first date” before Genna went off to Denver. “Steven proposed in his studio bedroom apartment kitchen where we had so many wonderful memories of our relationship (cough cough COVID),” Genna adds. They then celebrated with Genna’s family that night, who also live in Hoboken. Steven had arranged both families to meet the next day at a celebratory dinner, and Genna cried when she found out about the dinner Steven had planned.Details of the DayTheir wedding took place on April 20, 2023, at St. Ann’s Church in Hoboken. Genna’s mom, who is a makeup artist, did her makeup. And Genna’s childhood hairstylist (and family friend) who also did her communion, prom and all haircuts her entire life did her hair for the wedding. “We used our apartment building to get ready before the church, which was only two-blocks away,” Genna explains. “The girls were in the rooftop room overlooking the NYC skyline and boys in our apartment. No first look before the church.”The bride worked at Anthropologie in Hoboken, so the bridesmaids dresses had a special significance since they were purchased there. Genna’s florist also used Anthropologie candles throughout the venue to give that Capri Blue (Volcano) scent all Anthro fans know and love. The groom’s four sisters weren\u2019t bridesmaids but also walked down the aisle in midi-dress versions of the bridesmaids dresses.Genna’s earrings were passed down from her great-grandmother and were her “something borrowed” from her mom. Her shoes were Jimmy Choo that her mom gifted to her on the day they went back to purchase her dress. Genna came out in the dress and the shoes were sitting there\u2014she was so surprised and cried. For the rehearsal dinner, Genna wore her mom’s wedding dress. “We altered it together,” Genna says. “It was so special to do together and with my sister who will also wear a version of the dress one day!”Details of the DayA vintage NYC taxi, an element that Genna always wanted to have, escorted the bride and her father to their ceremony at St. Ann’s. Custom newspapers featured the couple’s parents and grandparents wedding photos on the inside and were handed out in NYC-themed welcome bags as the church program.The reception then followed at Battello, a waterfront restaurant in Jersey City with phenomenal views of Manhattan. The MenuGenna and Steven brought in Vinnie Mootz (first time working at Battello) for a mozzarella station where it was made on-site, and guests loved it! The cake was inspired by Genna’s parents’ and grandparents’ wedding cakes and included her grandparents’ cake topper from their wedding 60 years ago\u2014they had just celebrated their 60th anniversary in February 2023.For dessert, they added the zeppole bar from Battello’s, but also brought in Bang Cookies, which was a signature of the couple’s relationship\u2014Steven loves chocolate-chip cookies. Since they always send Bang Cookies to their loved ones for birthdays, condolences, etc., it had special meaning for their guests. Their specialty cocktail was a Margot-rita inspired by their 1-year old rescue puppy Margot (from Wise Animal Rescue). Specialty beer (brought in from a Hoboken Brewing Company) was Bodi Blonde, which Genna and Steven had on their first date and continue to love and drink regularly.There was a Pizza Vita pizza truck for guests to grab to-go pizzas on the way out. They were served in custom boxes designed by the bride featuring their monogram, which was also used on custom cocktail napkins and meltable cocktail toppers. Custom chapsticks with a wedding design were in the bathroom bins that guests were encouraged to take home, and also included Jenna and Steven’s names and wedding date.Why Did You Choose Battello?“Location, food, ambiance and service,” Genna says.First DanceTheir untraditional first-dance song  was “Good Thing Go,”\u2019 by Quinn XCII, which was decided before Genna and Steven were even engaged. “We cried every time we listened to it and knew it was special,” Genna says.Favorite Moment“Our favorite moment was taking small moments together to step back and look at everyone having fun,” Genna says. “Despite the pouring rain, everything was truly perfect\u2014and standing at the top of the stairs at Battello looking down during our reception was a moment we’ll never forget.”Favorite Detail“The custom pizza boxes were something we were not planning to do but ended up being the perfect touch (and the icing on the cake!) at the end of the night as guests were leaving,” Genna adds.Advice for Others“Let it be fun,” Genna says. “Despite all of the stress, some of the little things aren’t worth fretting over. Pick vendors you can trust so you don’t need to worry and enjoy the day as much as you can. Mainly, stick with your partner the entire night so you get to enjoy everything together!”HoneymoonThe couple went to South Africa: Cape Town, Wine Region, Safari (Little Bush Lodge at Sabi Sabi Game Reserve) and then Seychelles.
