Melissa responded to a prompt on the app saying she puts 120% into everything she does and Tagg wrote back asking if 200% was acceptable or if we cap it at 120%! Their first date was in Morristown, NJ, less than a week after they matched online. After dinner and sharing a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon followed by an after-dinner walk (which Tagg asked to do although he despises date walks), a second date came the very next day. Tagg jokes that he saw Melissa walking to the restaurant after parking her car and he called her to tell her to stop and wait—he was looking for a parking spot and didn’t want another guy to swoop her up in the meantime. Tagg wanted to know if Melissa would “officially” be his girlfriend after date number three. “You know Tagg—he wastes no time!” Melissa says. After countless dates in Morristown, Summit and Jersey City, Melissa finally invited Tagg down to her family’s beach house to meet her parents. Tagg was a hit with the parents, Melissa made her famous charcuterie board accompanied by martinis and when Tagg left to go home that night, they both knew it was a forever kind of thing and weren’t questioning it. They like to think it was a little sign from above from Tagg’s mom. ❤️ After focusing on their careers and always putting themselves out there for everyone else, they both were embracing that this was finally their time to focus on falling in love. Will You Marry Me?Tagg proposed on Christmas Day 2022 in front of his father and three younger brothers, Melissa’s parents, her Grandpa Joe, her brother Matt and his fiancé Elizabeth. Tagg was asked to share a favorite Christmas memory from past years and he replied by saying he would like to make his favorite Christmas memory today. Melissa was so shocked and surprised when he pulled out the stunning ring and got down on one knee. At the same time Tagg proposed, their dog Rooney jumped up on Melissa’s lap to not miss the excitement! It was a Christmas to remember!Details of the DayAfter a ceremony at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Short Hills, NJ, the couple along with family and friends proceeded to Hudson House in Jersey City. The décor was elegant and chic. “We wanted it to feel sophisticated,” Melissa says. “The setting of Hudson House really contributed to that vibe.”“Winter whites with greenery was our floral vibe—can’t forget the baby’s breath runners on the long tables and the greenery on the staircase!” Melissa adds.Their cake was a four-tiered vanilla buttercream frosting cake with funfetti and chocolate fudge. “The funfetti was meant to be a fun, yummy surprise,” Melissa explains. “Our cake even featured a small figurine of our mini Irish doodle puppy, Rooney!”“Speaking of Rooney, he made an appearance for some photos! And then we had three-foot printouts of Rooney face on the dance floor—needless to say, it was a hit!” Melissa adds.Guests loved the photo booth with the long black couch in front of a greenery hedge wall, accompanied by a neon light-up sign that said “The McGurrins.”“We danced our first dance to ‘Lost Stars,’ by Adam Levine and broke into a fun choreographed part, truly capturing who we are as a couple!” Melissa adds. They found ways throughout the ceremony and reception to honor Tagg’s late mother, which was extra special. “I even had a handkerchief embroidered with a note to him in her handwriting—talk about shedding a few tears!” Melissa says. “Family and honoring those no longer with us is so valuable to us both so this was extra important.”Why Did You Choose Hudson House?Melissa and Tagg chose Hudson House in Jersey City, with phenomenal views of Manhattan because they wanted a classic New York vibe.Favorite MomentTheir favorite moment was when Tagg and Melissa grabbed their parents (Melissa’s parents and father-in-law) for the last song and the five of them danced together before the couple had the last few moments together. “That was really special for us,” Melissa explains. “Our parents set the bar high as examples for successful marriages, and they have given us the world (and a dream wedding). Taking a moment just the five of us (and my MIL in spirit) was oh so memorable.”Favorite DetailTheir can’t-live-without vendor was their photographer, Deborah Ann Photography. “Brides—do not cheap out on your photography,” Melissa advises. “Get to know your photographer on a more personal level. They traveled 21 hours: JFK to Dubai, then Dubai to the Maldives. They then took a speedboat to the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa where we stayed for a week in a sunrise overwater bungalow. “What a dream-come-true waking up next to your best friend to the Indian Ocean every day!” Melissa says. “We snorkeled, saw sea turtles, enjoyed water sports, learned some new recipes in an Italian cooking class, spent time relaxing by the pool and beach and reminiscing on the best day ever: 11/25/23!
